In Brief Statement, Cleveland Cop Said He Thought Tamir Rice Was 'Active Shooter

Author: Michael McLaughlin
The two Cleveland police officers involved in the shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice had told investigators they believed he was a grown man with a gun, when in fact he was an adolescent with a toy gun. Summaries of what officers Timothy Loehman and Frank Garmback said happened in the moments before Loehman fired two shots that killed Tamir at a playground have been heard before. The Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office shared the brief statements on Tuesday. "The suspect had a gun, had been threatening others with the weapon and had not obeyed our commands to show us his hands," Loehman wrote. "It was an active shooter situation." Loehman claimed that he and Garmback repeatedly yelled at Tamir to "show me your hands." But the video showed the officer open fire within two seconds of emerging from the police cruiser driven by Garmback.
The purpose of the article is to highlight the tyranny present in the current police force and justice system. If I have learnt anything from previous and similar cases like these is that the police officers will be let scot-free while the family grieves by themselves. America was built by people of colour but it was not built for them.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

Graphic Video Shows College Student Who Died In Custody Was Tased In Restraint Chair

Author: Taryn Finley

The article is about Matthew Ajibade, a 21 year old college student who was put in police custody at the Chatham County Jail in Georgia. Ajibade was arrested on January first after a domestic altercation with his girlfriend  and after breaking a deputy’s nose after having a bipolar episode. His body was found on January 2, his face was covered in spit and abrasions, scrapes and bumps on his upper body and head. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma. On June 4, the coroner ruled it a homicide and three jail workers were charged with involuntary manslaughter in his death while nine deputies were fired.

I chose this article because I am tired of black bodies turning into hashtags. I am tired of constantly being afraid that maybe today is the day I lose my brother to a rouge cop. I am tired of hearing that all lives matter because it is apparent that black lives do not. I am tired of hearing, "not all cops are bad." I am tired of the constant fear that black people have to live with every single day. I am simply exhausted.

Michelle Obama Dropped Some Wisdom Every Young Girl Should Hear

Michelle Obama Dropped Some Wisdom Every Young Girl Should Hear

Author: Taylor Pittman

The article is about First Lady Michelle Obama. The article is about the speech she gives at Glamour's "The power of an Educated Girl" panel that took place in New York city. The panel happened on September 29. The panel was held to address the problem that is the 62 million girls in the world who do not have access to education in the world.  She emphasized that her main goal is to make sure every girl has the same chance she had while she was in school and the chance that her daughters currently have when it comes to education, and encouraged the girls and young women in the audience to seize the opportunity to learn and make the most of the opportunities that come their way. "I want you to be that hungry to get your education because it is going to be the key to your future."
During the panel when the first lady was asked to give advice to girls all over who may think boys find their intelligence unattractive or daunting, the first lady encouraged the audience of young women to remove such negative people from their lives "whether that's your boo or your best friend." Then, she shared some solid advice. "There is no boy at this age that is cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting your education," she said. "If I had worried about who liked me and who thought I was cute when I was your age, I wouldn't be married to the president of the United States today."

The first lady is the best paradigm of a carefree black girl, she speaks her mind and lives her life the way she sees fit. Through this, she teaches girls and young women out in the world to not care about what anyone says about them and how to be content with who they are and how to live life to their fullest potential. This article is empowering and powerful and that is why I chose it

Fairfax Cop Uses Stun Gun On Man Who Does Not Appear To Be Resisting

Fairfax Cop Uses Stun Gun On Man Who Does Not Appear To Be Resisting

Author: Ed Mazza

The article is about a man who is not named who is harmed by a Fairfax police officer who also is not named. The article details the happenings before the police officer pulls out his stun gun and tasers the unarmed man. The incident took place in Fairfax County, Virginia. The incident happened approximately around the beginning of the month. The unidentified victim who was cooperating with the officer's requests was asked to lie on the officers hood and the victim does this. As he places his hands on the hood the officer pulls out his stun gun and tasers him and the victim drops to the ground where the officer proceeds to yell at him and tell him to get on the ground and roll over.

I chose to write about this topic because police brutality is a problem in this country, and men and women are being treated as less than human beings, some police officers are treating them like scum. I also chose to write about this article in order to get the case a Little more recognition than it currently has. So that the unidentified police officer can be brought to justice after tasering the unarmed man and getting away with it Scott free

Woman Says She Endured 8 Days In Psych Ward Because Cops Didn't Believe BMW Was Hers.

Woman Says She Endured 8 Days In Psych Ward Because Cops Didn't Believe BMW Was Hers

Author: Christopher Mathias

The article was about Kamilah Brock who was sent to a mental facility after being pulled over by a New York police officer when she stopped at a light. The police officer approached her and asked why she was driving without her hands on the steering wheel. She answered that she was dancing and then for no specific reason she was taken into custody and transported to the NYPD's 30th Precinct, where she was held for a few hours before being released without being charged with any crime. She said she was told to come back the next day to pick up her car. The next day, instead of being taken to her car she was instead taken to Harlem Hospital, where medical records show she was injected with powerful sedatives. The incident occurred in September of 2014.  After all this occurred she was given a bill of 13,000 that she had to pay for her involuntary stay at the mental ward. Kamilah Brown did nothing to deserve this type of treatment, she had no history of mental illness and she did own the BMW.

I specifically chose this article to showcase the racial profiling and ingrained racial stereotypes that most police officers have instilled in them. It is infuriating that to this day black people are still considered not good enough, not smart enough, not educated enough to have and possess any sort of wealth and fortune.
